SQUEEZEBOX HEADLINES UNITED WAY NIGHT NOV. 2
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEW BRAUNFELS, TX – The band Squeezebox brings its unique polka flair to the Wursthalle on United Way night beginning at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 2. All proceeds from tickets sold at the gate on this day will benefit the United Way of Comal County. The 49th annual Wurstfest begins on Friday, Oct. 30 and runs through Sunday, Nov. 8 at the Wurstfest grounds in Landa Park along the Comal River. In 2008, Wurstfest donated gate proceeds totaling $10,106 to United Way. These funds go toward youth services, family and senior agencies, health and healing, and emergency needs. This is the fifth year for United Way Night at Wurstfest. “Wurstfest encourages New Braunfels and Comal County residents to attend Wurstfest on Monday night for several reasons,” says Executive Director Suzanne Herbelin. “First, two people can enjoy the festival for the price of one with the discount coupons available on line in the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung and other publications. Second, each dollar paid in gate admission fees is donated to the United Way. And third, the Wursthalle hosts special entertainers on that evening. So, it’s a win-win situation for both Wurstfest patrons and United Way.” “The proceeds go toward helping 26 agencies,” adds Terry Robinson, executive director of the United Way of Comal County. “Some of those agencies include The Salvation Army, Comal County Senior Citizen’s Foundation and Children’s Advocacy Center.” For a complete list of agencies, visit the United Way of Comal County Web site at www.uwcomal.org. Squeezebox offers a dynamic trio of performers playing upbeat polkas and tunes along with their own dynamic takes on popular songs. The group, whose members are originally from Ohio, includes Mollie Busta on trumpet, sax, piano, button box and vocals; Dave Burner on drums and vocals; and Bandleader Ted Lange on accordion, bass and vocals. For information on the band, go to www.squeezeboxband.com. The Wurstfest Association of New Braunfels is a non-profit corporation whose purpose is to promote the local economy through tourism and promote and preserve the community’s rich German heritage. Proceeds from the event benefit a wide variety of projects. Admission to the Wurstfest grounds will be free from 4 to 7 p.m. on opening night, Oct. 30. After that, admission to the festival is $8 at the gate; and children ages 12 and younger will be admitted free at all times. Group rates, advance discounts and special weekday promotions are available. For information about Wurstfest, call 830/625-9167 or 1-800-221-4369, or visit the Web site at www.wurstfest.com.
