Wurstfest helps Rotary Club Raise Delicious Funds
Kartoffelpuffer – this silly-sounding word (German for “potato pancake”) means serious business for the Rotary Club of New Braunfels. Every year, Wurstfest attendees line up by the hundreds for a heaping helping of the Rotary’s signature festival-food treat. Beyond the immediate satisfaction they bring to hungry patrons, sales of the kartoffelpuffers and other delicious fare help to raise funds for the Rotary Club’s mission of community service. According to immediate past president of the Rotary Club, Ian Perez, Wurstfest is the organization’s biggest fundraiser.
Thanks in part to proceeds from food sales at Wurstfest, the Rotary Club of New Braunfels was able to issue $60,000 in grants in 2016. The organization, which extolls the virtues of service, professionalism, honesty, and acquaintance, bestows grants in the form of college scholarships for local students, community outreach programs, and civil beautification or improvement projects throughout New Braunfels.
The next time you find yourself at Wurstfest with a plate piled with starchy nirvana (and a side of applesauce), know that your purchase has helped to make a difference in your community. What a delicious way to serve!
